Bihar Orthopaedic Association Seeks IOA Partnership for Athletes

The Bihar Orthopaedic Association (BOA) has put forward a proposal for a formal collaboration with the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) aimed at reducing sports-related injuries and ensuring faster, scientifically guided recovery for athletes through specialised orthopaedic care.

The proposal was highlighted during a scientific seminar organised by the City Orthopaedic Club of Patna at a city hotel on Sunday. IOA executive committee member Bhupinder Singh Bajwa, who attended the event as chief guest, underlined the need for closer coordination between the national Olympic body and orthopaedic surgeons. He stated that a structured partnership could significantly minimise on-field injuries while ensuring injured athletes receive timely and advanced rehabilitation support.

Bajwa stressed that modern sports require integrated medical planning and continuous monitoring, adding that collaboration with orthopaedic experts would help athletes return to peak performance levels more efficiently.

Held under the leadership of BOA president Dr Amulya Kumar Singh and convened by Dr Arnab Sinha, the meeting brought together around 75 orthopaedic surgeons, who deliberated on emerging trends in musculoskeletal health and sports medicine.

The event concluded with a collective commitment from the medical fraternity to integrate recent surgical and rehabilitation advancements into mainstream care for regional and national-level athletes.
