Akola: As Vidarbha continues to grapple with an intense heatwave, Akola recorded a blistering 45 degrees Celsius on Friday, making it the hottest location in Maharashtra. Amravati followed closely with 44.8 degrees Celsius. Temperatures in most districts across the region hovered around the 44 degrees Celsius mark.

The sharp spike in temperature has severely impacted daily life in Akola. Roads wore a deserted look during peak afternoon hours as residents stayed indoors to avoid the scorching heat. Shops and businesses reported reduced footfall, and many people opted to remain in cooler environments.
IMD Forecast
According to R Kaushal, head of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) centre in Akola, temperatures are expected to remain appreciably high until April 30. Hot winds and heatwave conditions are likely to persist over the next three to four days. The Regional Meteorological Centre in Nagpur has issued a heatwave alert for Akola and surrounding districts between April 25 and 27.
While there is a possibility of light rain and gusty winds on April 29 and 30, officials caution that it is unlikely to bring significant relief from the prevailing heat. Residents are advised to stay hydrated and avoid outdoor activities during peak hours.
