Uber India has unveiled its comprehensive annual report for 2025, titled "How India Ubered," offering a fascinating data-driven snapshot of the nation's mobility patterns. The report highlights significant growth in the adoption of ride-hailing services, with key metropolitan areas leading the charge and several emerging trends shaping how Indians commute, travel, and use on-demand services.
Metro Dominance and Staggering Travel Distance
The data confirms the continued dominance of major urban centres in Uber's ecosystem. Delhi-NCR, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru emerged as the top three cities for the highest number of Uber trips booked throughout the year. They were closely followed by Mumbai and Pune, rounding out the top five. On a national scale, the figures are monumental: Indians covered a staggering over 11.6 billion kilometers using Uber in 2025. This represents a substantial 26.5% increase compared to the total distance travelled in the previous year, 2024.
Kochi Riders Shine, Premium Services Gain Traction
Beyond sheer volume, the report sheds light on rider behaviour and quality. The city of Kochi stood out impressively, recording the highest average rider rating of 4.91 out of 5. An exceptional 98.3% of trips taken in Kochi received a perfect five-star rating from drivers. Thiruvananthapuram followed with an average of 4.87, with Pune and Chandigarh also featuring among cities with the most highly-rated passengers.
The year also saw strong adoption of Uber's diverse service offerings. Indians embraced greener travel, clocking 365 million kilometers in Uber Electric Vehicles (EVs). The premium Uber Black service saw over 34 million kilometers of travel. Uber's expansion into mass transit and delivery was notable: Uber Shuttle attracted nearly 800,000 first-time users for app-based bus travel, while around 3 million users tried Uber Courier for the first time during 2025.
Key Behavioral Insights and Popular Routes
The "How India Ubered" report is rich with behavioural insights that paint a picture of daily life. The evening commute peak was evident, with 6:00 PM being the most common time for booking a trip. Friday remained the most popular day of the week for rides, and November was the busiest month. A single-day record was set on December 12, 2025, which saw the highest number of trips booked.
For late-night travel, Mumbai and Kolkata showed the highest proportion of trips. Weekend travel as a share of total trips was led by Mumbai, Guwahati, and Chennai. In contrast, Bhubaneswar and Thiruvananthapuram recorded the highest share of trips during office hours.
Intercity travel via Uber saw significant action. The top five intercity routes were Mumbai-Pune, Delhi-Agra, Bangalore-Mysore, Lucknow-Kanpur, and Ahmedabad-Vadodara. For longer adventures, the top five longest intercity trips by distance included round trips like Gurgaon-Ahmedabad-Gurgaon (1,827 km) and Delhi-Srinagar-Delhi (1,616 km). Tourist hotspots accessible via Uber Intercity included Agra, Mysore, Puri, and Lonavala.
City Performance: Speed and Ratings
The report also ranked cities based on the fastest average speeds clocked on Uber trips. The top five were:
- Bhubaneswar
- Thiruvananthapuram
- Jaipur
- Ahmedabad
- Chandigarh
The national average rider rating was a healthy 4.76. The city-wise ranking for rider ratings placed Kochi at the pinnacle (4.906), followed by Thiruvananthapuram (4.871), Pune (4.832), Chandigarh (4.821), and Ahmedabad (4.815). Major metros like Bangalore, Hyderabad, Delhi-NCR, and Mumbai also featured well above the national average.
