Xiaomi 17T and 17T Pro to Feature Leica 5x Telephoto Camera, Launching May 28
Xiaomi 17T Series with Leica 5x Telephoto Launches May 28

Xiaomi has officially announced that both the 17T and 17T Pro smartphones will feature a Leica-tuned 5x telephoto camera. This marks a significant shift, as the periscope-grade lens is now standard across the entire series, not limited to the Pro variant.

Global and India Launch Details

The Xiaomi 17T series will be unveiled globally in Vienna on May 28. Following this, the standard 17T model will arrive in India on June 4. This launch is particularly notable for India, as it marks the return of the T-series to the country since the 11T Pro in 2022.

Telephoto Camera Specifications

The telephoto lens offers a 115mm equivalent focal length, which is longer than many current flagship smartphones. Xiaomi's global team has stated that the lens provides 10x optical-quality zoom through hybrid cropping, and can reach up to 120x zoom via AI Ultra Zoom. While the exact resolution has not been officially confirmed, multiple leaks suggest a 50-megapixel sensor on both models.

In most smartphone lineups, the longer telephoto lens is typically reserved for the Pro model. Xiaomi has taken a different approach by making the 5x Leica lens standard across the series. This means the 17T inherits a feature usually exclusive to the Pro variant. Xiaomi India is emphasizing this in its marketing, branding the phone as 'The Telephoto Master' in early teasers.

Xiaomi 17T India Launch: Specs, Price, and More

For India, only the standard 17T is expected to launch, while the 17T Pro remains a global exclusive. The 17T is rumored to pair the new telephoto lens with a 50-megapixel main sensor and a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera. The display is expected to be a 6.59-inch 1.5K LTPS panel with a 144Hz refresh rate. Leaks also indicate the phone will be powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 8500 Ultra processor, a 6,500mAh battery with 67W HyperCharge support, and IP68 water and dust resistance.

Pricing

European pricing has been leaked at €749 (approximately Rs 71,000) for the 12GB/256GB base model. However, Indian pricing is typically lower, so the actual cost in India may be more competitive.
