In a swift operation, Bengaluru police arrested a Nepalese couple who had stolen Rs 25 lakh in cash from their employer's residence and recovered the entire amount within a day. The accused were identified as Bhuvan Bista, also known as Pavan Bista, aged 35, and his wife Seetha Bista, aged 33.
Incident Details
The complainant, CH Subbareddy, a contractor residing in Arkavathi Layout, filed a complaint on May 28. He had recently withdrawn Rs 25 lakh from a bank to pay wages to his workers and stored the cash in a locked cupboard inside his house. The key to the cupboard was hidden beneath clothes in another cupboard.
The Nepalese couple had been employed at his residence as security personnel and domestic help for the past month. On May 27, Subbareddy left for personal work while his wife stayed home. Upon returning in the evening, he noticed the couple was missing, and their allotted room was empty and left open. Repeated attempts to contact them failed as their mobile phones were switched off. Suspecting theft, he checked the cupboard and discovered that the Rs 25 lakh cash was missing.
Investigation and Arrest
Amruthahalli police registered a theft case and launched an investigation. Acting on credible leads, a team led by police inspector Balaji V traced the accused couple to a relative's house in Shirke Layout, Kengeri Satellite Town, on May 28. The stolen amount was recovered intact. The couple had planned to leave the city the following day.
During interrogation, the couple confessed to committing the theft to fund a luxurious lifestyle. They have been remanded in judicial custody.
