Oppo Reno 15 Series India Launch on Jan 8: 200MP Camera, AI Features, Price Hike Expected
Oppo Reno 15 Series India Launch Confirmed for Jan 8

Chinese electronics giant Oppo has officially announced the Indian debut of its highly anticipated Reno 15 series. The launch event is scheduled for 8 January at 12 PM IST, marking the arrival of the company's latest camera-centric smartphones in a key global market.

Oppo Reno 15 Series: Triple-Model Launch With Camera Powerhouse

This generation will see a trio of models hitting Indian shelves: the Oppo Reno 15 Pro 5G, the Reno 15 Pro Mini 5G, and the standard Reno 15 5G. Notably, the previously rumoured Oppo Pad 5 tablet has not been confirmed for this event, suggesting its launch may be postponed to a later date.

The company has proactively shared key specifications, building hype around the devices' imaging capabilities. The spotlight is firmly on the Pro models. Both the Reno 15 Pro and the Pro Mini variant will be equipped with a formidable 200MP 'ultra-clear' primary camera sensor. They will also share a sophisticated 50MP 3.5x telephoto portrait lens, which Oppo claims is engineered to mimic the classic 85mm focal length beloved by portrait photographers.

Completing the rear triple-camera setup is a 50MP ultra-wide-angle lens with a 100-degree field of view. A significant upgrade is the support for 4K 60fps HDR video recording across all three rear sensors and even the front-facing camera, promising professional-grade video from any angle.

Specs, AI Smarts, and a Focus on Indian Users

The standard Reno 15 5G, while slightly scaled down, still packs a respectable camera system. It features a 50MP main shooter, coupled with the same 50MP 3.5x telephoto portrait lens as its Pro siblings, and an 8MP ultra-wide-angle sensor. For selfies, it boasts a high-resolution 50MP front camera.

Oppo is leveraging its proprietary PureTone technology to deliver what it describes as a "clear and vivid look" that intelligently considers the entire environment instead of over-isolating the subject. Crucially, the brand has emphasized that its camera algorithms have been tuned to accurately maintain Indian skin tones, addressing a common concern among users in the region.

On the software front, the Reno 15 series will be loaded with AI-enhanced features. The headline act is the AI Editor 3.0, alongside tools like AI Portrait Glow for enhancing lighting in photos and AI Motion Photo Slow-mo to transform action shots into dynamic motion photos.

Expected Pricing and Market Position

Oppo has remained silent on the official pricing for the Reno 15 lineup in India. However, industry leaks and analyst predictions point towards a possible price increase compared to the Reno 14 series.

To recall, the Reno 14 Pro started at ₹49,999 for the 12GB/256GB model, going up to ₹54,999 for the 12GB/512GB variant. The Reno 14 had launched at ₹37,999, with its top variant priced at ₹42,999. It's worth noting that the Reno 14's price has already crept above the ₹40,000 mark on platforms like Flipkart.

The most intriguing addition is the Reno 15 Pro Mini, which marks Oppo's first foray into the compact smartphone segment in India. Early reports suggest this pocket-friendly powerhouse could be positioned around the ₹60,000 mark, placing it in a premium niche.

The launch on January 8th will set the stage for Oppo's 2024 strategy in India's fiercely competitive mid-range to premium smartphone segment, where camera innovation and AI features are becoming critical differentiators.
