Vizag Police Deploy Robotic Lifebuoys to Prevent Beach Drowning Deaths
Robotic Lifebuoys to Save Lives at Vizag Beaches

In a significant move to enhance beach safety, the Visakhapatnam (Vizag) city police have announced the introduction of advanced robotic lifebuoys. This initiative comes as a direct response to the alarming number of drowning incidents reported along the city's coastline.

High-Tech Response to a Persistent Threat

The decision was formalized after a detailed demonstration of the robotic rescue equipment at RK Beach near the YMCA on Friday evening. The demonstration was personally inspected by Vizag City Police Commissioner Dr. Shanka Brata Bagchi, along with a team of senior police personnel. The authorities have identified a critical need for such intervention, with drowning fatalities being reported at 16 separate locations stretching from Appikonda beach to Bheemili beach.

Capabilities of the Robotic Lifesaver

This innovative lifebuoy is designed to be a first responder in aquatic emergencies. The key feature of this equipment is its ability to travel up to 600 meters into the waters from the shore. It is engineered to swiftly reach individuals who find themselves in trouble after venturing into the sea, providing immediate flotation support and aiding lifeguards in rescue operations.

The operational plan involves deploying these robotic units at all strategic and high-risk points along the Vizag coast. In the future, trained lifeguards stationed at these locations will be responsible for operating the equipment, ensuring a rapid and tech-augmented response to any distress situation.

A Proactive Plan for Public Safety

The Vizag police, in collaboration with other agencies, are currently chalking out a comprehensive implementation plan. The primary objective is to strategically position this life-saving technology to create a safer environment for the millions of visitors who flock to Vizag's famous beaches. This proactive measure underscores the administration's commitment to leveraging technology for public welfare and preventing tragic loss of life.

This introduction of robotic lifebuoys marks a modern step forward in coastal safety management for the city, potentially setting a benchmark for other coastal regions in India.
