Nagpur University's Innovative Foldable LED Lamp Receives UK Design Registration

In a significant advancement for portable lighting technology, researchers at Nagpur University have successfully developed a foldable multi-colour LED lamp designed for modern, versatile, and portable applications. The pioneering team, led by Dr Sanjay Janrao Dhoble alongside researchers Siddheshwar M Nagpure and Aditya Jagdale, has secured a prestigious UK design registration for this groundbreaking innovation, marking a major milestone in academic research with practical utility.

Versatile Lighting Options for Diverse Needs

The lightweight and highly portable lamp provides users with four distinct lighting modes: yellow, blue, white, and RGB (red, green, and blue). The white LED setting is engineered to closely mimic natural sunlight, making it exceptionally suitable for tasks that require precise illumination, such as reading, writing, studying, household chores, and office work. This feature ensures accurate colour rendering while significantly reducing eye strain, promoting better visual comfort during extended use.

Moreover, the lamp's low energy consumption and extended battery life position it as a reliable light source during power outages or emergencies, offering peace of mind in unpredictable situations. The yellow LED mode offers an added benefit by attracting fewer mosquitoes, thereby helping to minimise disturbances and enhance comfort during nighttime activities.

Advanced Features for Enhanced User Experience

Beyond basic illumination, the lamp incorporates sophisticated functionalities to cater to various environments and moods. The blue light setting can create a calming ambience, aiding in stress relief and relaxation. Meanwhile, the RGB mode is capable of synchronising with music to produce dynamic, colourful lighting effects, making it ideal for parties, social events, and professional presentations.

At the core of this innovation is a specially designed printed circuit board (PCB) that precisely controls colour selection and functionality. The lamp's unique construction includes a cloth tube and an air nozzle mechanism, allowing it to expand into a circular shape during operation and fold flat for effortless transport and efficient heat management. This design not only enhances portability but also ensures optimal thermal performance.

Practical Design for Multiple Applications

Equipped with a convenient hook for hanging and a strong magnet for attachment to metal surfaces, the lamp can be easily mounted on walls, tents, vehicles, or various other structures, providing flexible placement options. It operates efficiently on both standard batteries and rechargeable systems, guaranteeing long-lasting illumination with minimal energy use, which aligns with sustainable practices.

University Recognition and Future Prospects

University officials, including vice-chancellor Dr Manali Kshirsagar, registrar Dr Raju Hivase, and IIL director Dr Prakash Itankar, have publicly praised the research team for their innovative contribution. They highlighted the lamp's potential to bridge the gap between academic research and real-world applications. The researchers expressed optimism that such university-led projects will continue to translate into technologies that are both socially beneficial and commercially viable, fostering innovation and practical problem-solving.

This development underscores Nagpur University's commitment to advancing technological solutions that address everyday challenges while promoting energy efficiency and user convenience in the lighting sector.
