Nagpur Teen's Fire-Safe Fuel Tank Innovation Wins UK Patent Following Tragic Expressway Blaze

A devastating fire on the Samruddhi Expressway in 2023, which claimed the lives of 25 bus passengers, left 11-year-old Avanish Bavaskar deeply traumatized. However, this tragedy sparked a remarkable journey of innovation for the young boy from Amravati. Now 15 years old, Avanish has designed a revolutionary four-chamber fuel tank for vehicles, equipped with an integrated fire-fighting system that activates automatically upon detecting fumes.

From Trauma to Triumph: A Schoolboy's Engineering Breakthrough

Avanish's innovative design has already earned him a patent in the United Kingdom, while his application for an Indian patent is in an advanced stage of consideration. He recently showcased his project at the Viksit Bharat Start-Up event in Nagpur, organized by the Vidarbha Economic Development Council, startup mentoring firm Lemon Ideas, and Nagpur University. The event featured numerous schoolchildren presenting their creative ideas.

"The fuel tank features four interconnected chambers, which help distribute the load while ensuring a continuous fuel flow," Avanish explained, flipping through the pages of his project file as if it were a school assignment. "My design incorporates three layers: the first is made of common metal, followed by silica, and then high-density polyethylene. A sensor triggers the fire-fighting system, which extinguishes any blaze within the tank and prevents a potential accident."

Prototype Development and Future Prospects

Avanish has successfully built both a prototype and a working model of his invention. He is currently seeking funding to further develop and refine the design. "I have presented it to several automobile engineers, and they believe this concept can work effectively," he said, displaying the enthusiasm typical of a dedicated schoolchild.

Other Young Innovators Shine at Start-Up Event

The Viksit Bharat Start-Up event also highlighted other talented young minds. Six-year-old Abeer Chaddha from Mumbai, who attended with his mother, aspires to become a footballer. His childhood sketches, which many parents cherish as memories, have been transformed into a brand by his family.

Simple drawings like a giraffe or Elmer the elephant, rendered in his abstract style, now appear as prints on a wide range of merchandise. In just one year, Abeer's artwork has generated approximately Rs 2 lakh in revenue, and his family plans to develop a dedicated shopping platform for his creations.

Pune Trio Develops AI Firewall for Academic Integrity

Meanwhile, a trio of 16-year-olds from Pune has created a firewall designed to detect whether AI applications are being used to cheat during exams or if they are genuinely assisting with understanding a topic. Avyaaya Rathi, one of the founders, explained that the system can identify if a user is seeking an answer to a single question. In such cases, it provides a simplified response aimed at enhancing comprehension rather than directly solving the problem.

This innovation addresses growing concerns about academic dishonesty in the digital age, showcasing how young entrepreneurs are tackling real-world challenges with technological solutions.
