The Ludhiana Municipal Corporation (MC) has proposed the installation of biogas plants at sewage treatment plants (STPs) under the Urban Challenge Fund. This initiative aims to generate renewable energy while effectively managing waste.
Project Details
The MC plans to set up biogas plants at three major STPs located in Jamalpur, Bhattian, and Giaspura. These plants will convert sewage sludge into biogas, which can be used for electricity generation or as a fuel for heating purposes.
Funding and Implementation
The project will be funded through the Urban Challenge Fund, a central government scheme that supports innovative urban infrastructure projects. The estimated cost of the project is around Rs 50 crore. The MC will invite tenders from private firms for the construction and operation of the plants.
