Revolutionary Solution from Engineering Students

A team of innovative students from Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya's Institute of Engineering and Technology in Indore has developed a groundbreaking solution to this persistent problem. Their creation, named the Brilliant Keyboard, represents a major leap forward in affordable assistive technology designed specifically for Braille-based digital interaction.

The development team includes Shruti Mishra, Utkarsh Sharma, Kanishk Singh Rajput, Sarthak Srivastava, and Dhawal More, all working under the expert guidance of Vaibhav Neema. Their project has received substantial technical and institutional support from the DAVV incubation center, which has been instrumental in both development and early-stage scaling efforts.

Dramatic Cost Reduction Makes Technology Accessible

The most remarkable aspect of the Brilliant Keyboard is its revolutionary pricing structure. While conventional refreshable Braille displays and specialized keyboards typically cost between Rs 40,000 and Rs 2 lakh, this innovative device is priced at just Rs 5,000 to Rs 7,000. This represents an astonishing 85 percent reduction in cost compared to existing market options.

Team member Shruti Mishra explained their fundamental approach: "We wanted to build something that is not only affordable but also simple enough for anyone to start using without feeling intimidated by technology." This philosophy has guided every aspect of the device's design and development.

Technical Specifications and User-Friendly Features

The Brilliant Keyboard has been engineered as a compact, Bluetooth-enabled device that can be seamlessly connected to smartphones, tablets, laptops, and desktop computers. Constructed primarily from 3D-printed materials, the device weighs less than 300 grams, making it exceptionally portable and suitable for everyday use in various environments.

Its design incorporates a six-dot layout that precisely mirrors the structure of a standard Braille cell, allowing users to adapt quickly without requiring extensive training. Unlike many existing tools that demand specialized instruction and often feature unintuitive interfaces, the Brilliant Keyboard prioritizes user-friendly interaction from the ground up.

The device includes sophisticated audio and haptic feedback systems that enable users to identify typing errors instantly, significantly enhancing the overall user experience. According to the developers, most users can learn basic Braille typing on the device within just a few hours, dramatically reducing the traditional learning curve associated with assistive technology.

Recognition and Future Plans

The innovation has already received significant recognition, securing first place at multiple prestigious events including the DAVV Startup Expo 2025, the 33rd International Management Conclave 'Samvardhan 3.0', and the 'Youth for Change' Social Summit. These awards highlight both the technical merit and substantial social impact of the Brilliant Keyboard project.

Team member Utkarsh Sharma emphasized their comprehensive approach: "Most existing devices are either too expensive or require specialized training. Our focus was to reduce both cost and complexity at the same time." This dual focus on affordability and usability distinguishes their solution from other products in the assistive technology market.

Looking toward the future, the development team has ambitious plans to scale production and make the Brilliant Keyboard widely available across India. Their ultimate goal is to enable greater digital inclusion for millions of visually impaired users who have previously been excluded from full participation in the digital revolution.
