Shimla: Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu inaugurated a 500-KW solar power plant at Dharech in Shimla district on Monday, marking Himachal Pradesh's first green panchayat.
Project Details and Cost
Built at an estimated cost of Rs 1.94 crore, the project commenced in January 2025 and was successfully connected to the electricity grid on March 30 this year. The plant currently generates around 3,000 units of clean energy daily, with an estimated annual production of nearly 8 lakh units.
Revenue and Distribution
Under an agreement, the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited (HPSEBL) will purchase electricity at Rs 3.50 per unit, ensuring an annual income of about Rs 28 lakh for the gram panchayat. The income will be distributed strategically: 30% for development works, 20% for the welfare of orphans and widows, 20% to the state government, 10% to Himurja, and 20% for operation and maintenance.
Long-Term Benefits
With an estimated lifespan of 25 years, the project is set to boost clean energy adoption, empower rural communities, and improve local livelihoods. This initiative underscores the state's commitment to renewable energy and sustainable development.
