Ganga Expressway: HD Cameras Every Km to Ban Two-Wheelers

Prayagraj: Speeding down the 594-km Ganga Expressway on two-wheelers is set to become more difficult as authorities tighten enforcement with high-definition CCTV cameras installed at every kilometre to detect and penalise violators. With a strict ban on two-wheelers and round-the-clock electronic surveillance, the expressway is being positioned as a high-speed, access-controlled corridor prioritising safety and discipline.

Expressway Completion and Toll Plazas

The state’s longest six-lane expressway, stretching from Prayagraj to Meerut, is now complete, marking a significant milestone in Uttar Pradesh’s infrastructure development. The second and final toll plaza has been constructed near Judapur Dandu village in Soraon tehsil of Prayagraj, while the first is located near Bijauli village in Meerut. The Prayagraj-end toll plaza has been developed with 16 lanes to ensure smooth and efficient traffic flow.

Advanced Safety Ecosystem

A key highlight of the project is its advanced safety ecosystem. CCTV cameras installed at every kilometre enable continuous monitoring across the entire stretch. In addition, an Automatic Traffic Management System (ATMS) has been deployed to ensure swift response in case of accidents, allowing cranes and rescue teams to reach affected spots within minutes and restore traffic quickly. The expressway has a maximum speed limit of 120 kmph, reinforcing its design as a high-speed corridor.

Economic Impact and Industrial Corridor

The route passes through 20 villages in Prayagraj and 42 in Pratapgarh, opening up new opportunities for economic growth. The Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) is simultaneously working on plans to develop an industrial corridor along the expressway. Land acquisition surveys have already begun, with strong potential identified for food processing units, cold storage facilities, mandis, and dairy industries.

UPEIDA senior general manager, Rajiv Ratan Singh, said the project combines modern safety infrastructure with long-term development planning, making the expressway not just a transport link but a catalyst for regional economic transformation.
