A hotel in China is facing a massive cleanup and repair bill after a long-term guest, described as a compulsive online gamer, left his room in a state of extreme filth and disrepair. The incident, which occurred in Changchun, has sparked widespread outrage online after a video showcasing the shocking conditions went viral.
The Shocking State of the Room
The guest had reportedly occupied the room for close to two years, rarely leaving his space during his extended stay. The viral footage reveals an almost unbelievable scene. The floor and furniture were buried under heaps of crumpled food packaging, empty cans, bottles, and discarded takeaway containers. His gaming equipment, including chairs and a table, was nearly invisible beneath layers of accumulated garbage.
The bathroom was in no better condition. It was littered with soaked toilet paper and other waste strewn across the floor, lavatory, and washbasin. Multiple surfaces were coated with a thick layer of grime, completing the picture of utter neglect.
Massive Cleanup and Financial Fallout
According to reports, the hotel staff undertook an extensive three-day operation to clean and disinfect the ravaged room. Despite their tremendous effort, the management confirmed that the room suffered significant damage and would require major renovation before being fit for future guests. This hotel is known for catering to Esports players, offering amenities like high-speed internet, gaming PCs, and specialised chairs for long-term stays.
Adding to the hotel's woes, authorities disclosed that the gamer had not paid for more than 10 days of his stay. The unpaid dues amount to approximately £300, which is roughly ₹36,000.
Social Media Erupts in Disgust
The video prompted strong and visceral reactions from social media users worldwide. Many expressed sheer disgust and disbelief at the conditions.
One user questioned the aftermath, asking, “Even after the deep cleaning, would you like to be the next in line customer in this room?” Another pondered the olfactory nightmare, writing, “How did nobody smell that?” The state of the bathroom particularly horrified viewers, with one comment reading, “Omg I can taste it in my mouth. I wouldn’t be able to endure that bathroom.” Others questioned the hotel's oversight, with a user remarking, “They left him in there for 2 years. What do they expect?”
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the extreme consequences of neglect and has left the hotel management to deal with a costly and unpleasant cleanup operation.
