Volkswagen Taigun Facelift Launched in India with Updates

Volkswagen India Introduces the Revamped Taigun SUV with Significant Upgrades

Volkswagen India has officially unveiled the new Taigun facelift SUV in the Indian market, marking a significant refresh for this popular model. The company has opened pre-bookings for the updated SUV, allowing interested customers to secure their vehicle either online or by visiting their nearest dealerships. Booking amounts range from Rs 11,000 to Rs 50,000, offering flexibility for potential buyers. While prices have not yet been announced, they are expected to be revealed sometime next month, with showroom previews and test drives likely to commence soon.

Enhanced Design and Exterior Features

In terms of design, the updated Taigun introduces a series of exterior revisions that align it with global Volkswagen models. The front end now features a slim light bar with an illuminated VW logo, while changes to the headlights and bumpers have been implemented, including the removal of fog lamps. Along the sides, the overall shape remains unchanged, but new designs for the 16- and 17-inch alloy wheels have been added. The GT badge has been relocated from the front fenders to the doors, and the 1.5 TSI variants now come equipped with rear disc brakes featuring red brake callipers.

At the rear, the SUV boasts updated tail-lamps with sequential turn indicators and a revised bumper. A connecting light bar with an illuminated VW logo spans the tailgate, and the trim between the taillamps now sports a textured finish. The colour palette has been expanded with the addition of Avocado Pearl and Steel Grey, joining existing shades such as Wild Cherry Red, Candy White, Deep Pearl Black, Lava Blue, Reflex Silver, Carbon Steel, and Carbon Steel Matte. These updates collectively give the Taigun a more mature and premium appearance, enhancing its visual appeal in a competitive segment.

Interior, Features, and Safety Enhancements

The Taigun facelift retains its existing dashboard layout but introduces updated trims, new two-tone interior themes, and up to six upholstery options depending on the variant. A key upgrade is the inclusion of a larger 10.25-inch digital driver's display with turn-by-turn navigation, paired with an updated 10.1-inch infotainment system that features improved graphics and a more responsive interface. This system also supports AI-based functions for real-time information, enhanced voice commands, and hands-free operation, aiming to improve usability and convenience.

Volkswagen has revised the air-conditioning system to enhance cooling performance, and feature availability varies by variant. Higher trims now offer a panoramic sunroof, while lower variants continue with a single-pane unit. Notably, the model does not include rear seat massaging, which is available on the Skoda Kushaq. Other features such as powered and ventilated front seats, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charging, ambient lighting, and rear AC vents are retained. Front parking sensors are offered on all variants except the base trim, and a rear washer, wiper, and defogger are now standard.

Safety features remain robust, with six airbags, ESC, and ABS with EBD as standard, and the model retains its 5-star Global NCAP rating. An ADAS suite is not available, with a rear-view camera serving as the primary assistance feature. These updates focus on improving comfort, convenience, and overall driving experience, bringing the interior in line with current segment expectations.

Powertrain and Performance Improvements

The SUV continues to be powered by a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 115hp and a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine producing 150hp, with no changes to the engine line-up. However, a significant update is the introduction of an 8-speed automatic gearbox for the 1.0 TSI variant, replacing the earlier 6-speed torque converter. Volkswagen claims this change results in a fuel efficiency improvement of up to 5.8 per cent. The 1.5 TSI engine continues with the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

The new 8-speed torque converter is designed to allow the engine to operate more effectively across a wider range of speeds, thereby aiding fuel economy and delivering smoother performance in daily use. This enhancement is aimed at making the Taigun more competitive against rivals like the Skoda Kushaq, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Victoris, Grand Vitara, Honda Elevate, Tata Sierra, and Renault Duster.

Overall, the Volkswagen Taigun facelift brings a host of incremental improvements that enhance its design, features, and efficiency, positioning it as a strong contender in the crowded SUV market in India.
