Tata Motors Unveils Refreshed Punch Micro-SUV in India
Tata Motors has officially launched the updated Tata Punch facelift in the Indian market. This marks the first major facelift for the popular micro-SUV since its original debut. The new model brings a host of improvements, including a restyled exterior, a refreshed interior, additional features, and a brand-new engine option.
Pricing for the updated Punch starts at Rs 5.59 lakh (ex-showroom). This represents a marginal increase of Rs 10,000 compared to the original 2021 entry price of Rs 5.49 lakh. Interestingly, the fully loaded naturally aspirated petrol variant now costs less than before, offering better value for money.
Exterior Design Updates
The overall silhouette of the Punch remains unchanged, but the front and rear sections receive significant updates. Some design elements draw inspiration from the Punch EV, giving the vehicle a more modern and aggressive look.
At the front, the facelift features slim daytime running lights (DRLs) and a clean blacked-out grille. A functional air intake in the bumper ensures better airflow to the engine, while black cladding adds a muscular stance. New LED headlamps set in angular housings and a silver skid plate complete the rugged front-end appearance.
On the sides, the design stays largely similar to the previous model, but it now sports newly designed 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. The rear sees a redesigned tailgate and lower bumper, along with new connected LED taillamps.
Interior and Feature Enhancements
Inside, the cabin layout follows the outgoing model but receives several updates. A new two-spoke steering wheel finished in gloss black with an illuminated Tata logo takes center stage. The vehicle also gets a touch-based climate control panel, similar to other Tata models.
Key features include:
- A free-standing 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system
- A digital instrument cluster
- Touch-based air-conditioning controls with toggles for fan speed and temperature
- Automatic climate control
- A premium sound system
- Cruise control
- Push-button start/stop
Customers can opt for a single-pane sunroof on the Pure+ and Adventure variants at an additional cost of Rs 35,000.
Safety and Performance
Safety is a major highlight of the updated Punch. It has secured a five-star rating under Bharat NCAP for both adult and child occupant protection. Tata Motors demonstrated the vehicle's safety credentials by crashing it into a stationary truck at 50 kmph.
Standard safety features include:
- Six airbags
- Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
- Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)
- Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
- A 360-degree camera
- Reverse parking sensors
The Punch offers a water wading capacity of up to 400 mm and a ground clearance of 193 mm. Boot space stands at 366 litres in petrol versions, while CNG variants provide 210 litres.
Engine Options and Variants
The new Tata Punch continues with the familiar 1.2-litre, three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine. It produces 88 PS and 115 Nm of torque. In CNG guise, the same engine delivers 73 PS and 103 Nm of torque, paired exclusively with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The petrol version is available with both manual and AMT gearbox options.
A major addition is the new 1.2-litre, three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine. This unit produces 120 PS of power and 170 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox. The turbo-petrol option is priced just Rs 40,000 higher than the base variant and comes with additional features.
The Punch is offered in eight variants:
- Smart
- Pure
- Pure Plus
- Pure Plus S
- Adventure
- Adventure S
- Accomplished
