Samsung Electronics has officially taken the wraps off its most ambitious foldable device yet, marking a new chapter in smartphone design. The company has launched the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold, its first smartphone capable of folding into three distinct sections. This groundbreaking device transforms from a compact phone into a large tablet, offering a massive 10-inch display when fully unfolded.
Galaxy Z TriFold: Specifications and Key Features
The innovative device employs an inward-folding mechanism with two hinges, elegantly tucking its main screen away for protection. When closed, users can interact with a practical 6.5-inch cover screen. Samsung has integrated a smart auto-alarm system that vibrates and displays on-screen warnings if the phone is being folded incorrectly, preventing potential damage.
Despite its expansive screen real estate, the TriFold achieves a remarkably slim profile, measuring a mere 3.9mm at its thinnest point when open. It does carry a weight of 309 grams, a trade-off for its complex structure. Under the hood, it is driven by a customized Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, paired with a substantial 16GB of RAM. Buyers can choose between 512GB or 1TB storage options.
The camera system is headlined by a powerful 200MP main sensor, supported by a 12MP ultra-wide lens and a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. For selfies and video calls, both the cover and main displays house 10MP front-facing cameras. Powering the device is a substantial 5,600mAh three-cell battery distributed across its panels for balanced weight and charging. It supports 45W wired and 15W wireless charging. The phone also boasts an IP48 water resistance rating, meaning it can survive immersion in up to 1.5 meters of water for 30 minutes.
Software, Multitasking, and Market Availability
Samsung's OneUI software leverages the enormous screen for unparalleled productivity. The interface allows three portrait-sized apps to run simultaneously side-by-side. Furthermore, the Galaxy Z TriFold is the first Samsung phone to feature standalone Samsung DeX, enabling users to create up to four separate workspaces, each capable of running five apps.
The device is set to make its world debut in South Korea on December 12, 2025. The 16GB/512GB model will be priced at 3,594,000 KRW (approximately $2,443). Following the Korean launch, it will roll out to other markets including China, Taiwan, Singapore, and the United Arab Emirates. A launch in the United States is planned for the first quarter of 2026, where it is expected to cost around $2,500. Notably, Samsung has not yet announced any plans or timeline for launching the Galaxy Z TriFold in India, leaving Indian tech enthusiasts awaiting further news.
