Amazon's home security brand, Ring, has made significant strides into the commercial surveillance market with the launch of a new mobile security trailer. Simultaneously, at the CES 2026 tech expo, the company unveiled an expanded lineup of smart home sensors and advanced AI features for its ecosystem.
Ring's Foray into Business Security with Mobile Trailer
The newly introduced Ring Mobile Security Trailer is designed to monitor large outdoor spaces like parking lots, construction sites, and similar areas. This move marks Ring's latest push into the business security segment. The unit features a prominent 360-degree camera with wireless connectivity and is built to be easily towable to different locations.
A key highlight is its solar power option, which allows for flexible deployment in areas without a fixed power source. Such towable security systems have grown in popularity at places like shopping centres since the pandemic, often using visible cameras and lights as a deterrent to signal active surveillance.
With this product, Ring aims to offer businesses a solution for monitoring spaces where installing permanent camera systems is challenging. The company is entering a competitive market where several other firms already offer similar towable camera rigs.
New Smart Home Sensors and App Ecosystem
At CES 2026, Ring also showcased its next generation of smart home devices. The new collection, named Ring Sensors, leverages Amazon's low-power, wide-area Sidewalk network. The lineup includes updated versions of popular devices like door/window sensors and glass-break sensors.
It also introduces several new products:
- A car alarm that plugs directly into a vehicle's OBD-II port.
- New motion sensors.
- Panic buttons for emergencies.
Pre-orders for the car alarm have already begun, while the other sensors are scheduled to launch in March 2026. In a related development, Amazon announced that the Sidewalk network will expand beyond the United States, with Canada and Mexico being the first international markets.
Ring is also enhancing its software platform with the introduction of the Ring App Store. This platform will let users discover and connect third-party applications tailored for specific needs, ranging from small business management to everyday home tasks. The company stated that in the coming weeks, users will be able to find apps that help them extract more value from their existing Ring cameras.
Advanced AI Features and Community Safety Partnerships
Ring is integrating more artificial intelligence to refine its alert system. Two new AI-driven features are on the horizon:
Unusual Event Alerts: This system learns the regular patterns of activity around a home and sends a notification when it detects anomalous behaviour.
Active Warnings: Utilizing computer vision technology, this feature will identify potential threats and provide contextual warnings based on specific details like location and the actions observed.
In a bid to enhance community safety, Ring has partnered with Watch Duty, a non-profit platform that tracks wildfire activity. This collaboration has led to the addition of a Fire Watch feature within Ring's "Neighbors" app. The feature will help communities share real-time updates about nearby fires and smoke. Furthermore, Ring is encouraging its users to share relevant footage from their cameras to assist first responders during such emergencies.
