Renault has finally unveiled the all-new Duster, marking a significant return to the Indian automotive market. The Duster was discontinued in early 2022, and its comeback is notable not just for its revival but also because it signals Renault's strategic re-entry into India's highly competitive midsize SUV space. This move positions the brand to challenge established players with a refreshed offering.

In terms of design, the transformation from the old Duster to the new model is profound. The earlier version featured a more rounded and conservative design, while the 2026 Duster adopts a sharper, wider, and more muscular stance that commands attention on the road.
Front and Side Profile Changes
Up front, the familiar large grille has been replaced by a slimmer, modern setup, flanked by sharp LED headlamps with distinctive Y-shaped DRLs. The bonnet is now higher and flatter, with prominent creases that enhance its aggressive look. This new design language makes the Duster appear wider and more planted compared to the outgoing model.
The side profile retains the classic Duster silhouette but has been sharpened and made more upright. It features thick body cladding, squared wheel arches, and relocated rear door handles to the C-pillar for a cleaner aesthetic. Both versions come with roof rails, but the new Duster's are functional, adding practicality. Wheel sizes have also increased, with the new model offering 17-inch and 18-inch alloy wheels, a step up from the 16-inch units on the older version.
Rear Design Enhancements
At the rear, the old Duster had a simple, flat tailgate design with conventional tail-lamps. In contrast, the new model boasts a more sculpted bootlid with a hunched profile. The Y-shaped lighting theme continues here, with LED tail-lamps that protrude slightly from the body for a dynamic effect. Additional updates include a roof-integrated spoiler and a large silver skid plate. Prominent Duster badging on both the front fascia and bootlid further emphasizes its identity.

The outgoing Duster was based on an older platform, while the 2026 model shifts to Renault Group's modern and more rigid CMF-B architecture, promising improved safety and driving dynamics.
Engine Options Revamped
Towards the end of its lifecycle in India, the old Duster was available with two petrol engines: a 1.5-litre unit producing 106 PS and a more powerful 1.3-litre turbo-petrol making 156 PS. For the 2026 Duster, Renault has revamped the powertrain lineup with two turbo-petrol engines and a hybrid option.
The Turbo TCe 160 generates 163 PS and 280 Nm, paired with a 6-speed wet-clutch DCT for smooth performance. The Turbo TCe 100 produces 100 PS and 160 Nm, offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox for driving enthusiasts. Additionally, there's a 1.8-litre strong hybrid motor paired with a 1.4 kWh battery pack, capable of running in pure electric mode for up to 80 percent of city driving, enhancing fuel efficiency and reducing emissions.

Inside the cabin, the old Duster was functional but clearly dated by the end of its run, with a simple dashboard design, smaller infotainment screen, and basic instrument cluster.
Modern Cabin Design
The new Duster's dashboard now looks modern, wider, and much more layered, featuring a strong horizontal layout that makes the cabin feel broader and more SUV-like. The touchscreen infotainment system is larger, sharper, and sits at the centre in a tablet-style layout, with cleaner air vents below for a technical aesthetic.
The instrument cluster has been upgraded to a fully digital display that looks crisper and more informative, providing the driver with access to navigation, vehicle data, and driving modes. The steering wheel design has changed too, now appearing sportier and more premium with a flatter bottom.
Enhanced Features and Technology
The new cabin uses more textured surfaces, contrast stitching, and layered trims, especially on the dashboard and door pads, elevating the premium feel. The centre console is better organized, with improved storage spaces and a modern gear selector area. It also features a fighter jet-styled cockpit with elements centred around the driver for an immersive experience.
While the outgoing Duster lacked advanced driver-assistance systems, the new model offers ADAS with 17 India-specific features, along with a 360-degree camera for enhanced safety. Additional features include an electrically-operated tailgate, panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, and 6-way powered front seats with ventilation functions, making it a well-equipped contender in its segment.
