Renault has officially announced the return of the Duster to India, unveiling the much-anticipated 2026 model in its third generation. Originally launched in 2012, the Duster was a trailblazer that revolutionized India's compact SUV segment, setting the stage for what has evolved into one of the most rapidly expanding automotive categories. Today, this segment accounts for nearly a quarter of the country's passenger vehicle market, underscoring the Duster's lasting impact.
Launch Timeline, Bookings, and Competitive Landscape
Pre-bookings for the new Duster are now open, allowing enthusiastic customers to register their interest either online or by visiting their nearest dealership. The official price announcement is anticipated in March 2026, with deliveries scheduled to commence from April 2026. The starting price is projected to be in the range of 9 to 10 lakh rupees (ex-showroom), positioning the Duster to compete fiercely in the midsize SUV segment. Key rivals include the Tata Sierra, Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Maruti Victoris, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, and Honda Elevate. At launch, the Duster will be available with two turbo-petrol engine options, while a strong hybrid variant is expected to debut around the Diwali period, adding to its appeal.

The 2026 Renault Duster offers a versatile lineup of three engine options to cater to diverse driving preferences. The first is a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that delivers 100 PS of power and 160 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox. The second option is a more powerful 1.3-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, generating 163 PS and 280 Nm of torque, available with either a 6-speed DCT or a 6-speed manual transmission. For those seeking enhanced efficiency, the Duster will also feature a 1.8-litre strong hybrid petrol engine. This hybrid setup combines a 109 hp petrol engine with a 49 hp electric motor and a 20 hp hybrid starter generator, supported by a 1.4 kWh (280V) battery. Together, this configuration produces a combined system output of 160 hp and 172 Nm, promising a blend of performance and fuel economy.

In terms of design, Renault has introduced several India-specific modifications to the new-generation Duster while preserving the overall silhouette of the global third-generation model. The India-spec SUV boasts redesigned headlamps with distinctive eyebrow-shaped LED daytime running lights that also serve as turn indicators. It features a revised grille with prominent Duster badging, replacing the traditional Renault logo, along with a front bumper that incorporates a protruding silver surround and pixel-style fog lamps. From the side, the Duster showcases black cladding over the wheel arches and lower body, C-pillar-mounted rear door handles, and functional roof rails. At the rear, triangular tail-lamps are connected by an LED light bar, a unique element not found on the global version. The cabin is adorned with silver accents and contrast green stitching, along with a dedicated button panel on the centre console and a slide-adjustable front armrest with storage. Key features include a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a panoramic sunroof, a wireless phone charger, dual-zone climate control, a powered tailgate, 6-way powered and ventilated front seats, 48-colour ambient lighting, keyless entry with push-button start/stop, and multiple drive modes. On the safety front, the Duster is equipped with six airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, rear parking sensors, ISOFIX child seat anchorages, a 360-degree camera, an electric parking brake, disc brakes on all four wheels, and Level 2 ADAS features, ensuring comprehensive protection for occupants.
