In a significant move to deepen its reach in the Indian market, Meta has begun rolling out support for Telugu and Kannada languages for its Meta AI assistant on Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta HSTN smart glasses. This update, announced on 18 December 2025, allows users to interact with their AI-powered eyewear using voice prompts in these prominent regional languages, moving beyond the earlier reliance on English and Hindi.

Bridging the Language Gap for Hands-Free Use

For a device category that relies heavily on voice commands, language support is a critical factor in adoption. By integrating Telugu and Kannada, Meta aims to make its smart glasses more intuitive and useful for a wider demographic in India. Users can now perform a full suite of hands-free tasks in their preferred language. This includes asking questions, getting instant information, capturing photos and videos, managing calls and messages, and controlling media playback. The goal is to create a seamless, natural experience that keeps users engaged with the glasses instead of forcing them to revert to their smartphones for basic functions.

How to Enable Telugu or Kannada on Your Meta Smart Glasses

Activating the new language options is a straightforward process. Users need to open the Meta AI companion app on their smartphone. From there, navigate to Device Settings > Meta AI > Language and Voice, and select either Telugu or Kannada. It is important to note that, as with many staged rollouts, the feature might not be immediately visible on all devices and could appear over the coming days.

India Market Strategy: Pricing, Availability, and New Features

This language expansion follows Meta's recent push to strengthen its smart glasses portfolio in India. The company is targeting different consumer segments with its two product lines. The Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 is marketed as a lifestyle accessory, with a starting price of ₹39,900. The Oakley Meta HSTN, starting at ₹41,800, is positioned for performance and sports enthusiasts. Both models are available through major online retailers and authorized offline stores across the country.

Meta is also ensuring wider accessibility by promoting the previous generation, Ray-Ban Meta Gen 1, on large retail platforms, which could offer a more affordable entry point depending on the variant.

Separately, Meta is testing an innovative audio feature called Conversation Focus. Designed to enhance usability in loud settings, this feature prioritizes the voice of the person the user is speaking with, making conversations clearer. Currently in limited access programs, it is not yet widely available but points to Meta's ongoing development to make the glasses more practical for everyday use.
