If you plan to buy a new mid-size SUV, consider waiting a little longer. Several exciting models will hit the market soon. This includes all-new electric vehicles, returning favorites, and refreshed versions of popular SUVs.
Electric SUVs Enter the Mainstream
The electric vehicle segment is heating up with two major launches.
Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara
Maruti Suzuki will launch its first mass-market electric SUV, the e-Vitara. It uses the new Heartect-e platform. The design takes inspiration from the eVX concept.
The cabin features modern elements like:
- Floating dual screens for instruments and infotainment
- A gloss-black center console with drive controls
- Wireless charging pad
- A two-spoke steering wheel
- Leatherette upholstery
Safety is a priority with Level 2 ADAS and seven airbags. Buyers can choose between two battery packs. The 49 kWh and 61 kWh options will be available. The larger battery promises a range of up to 543 kilometers.
Toyota Urban Cruiser EV
Toyota's first mass-market electric SUV for India debuts today. It shares its platform and core parts with the Maruti e-Vitara. However, it sports distinct Toyota styling.
The overall shape is similar, but the front gets a fresh design. It features a Toyota-specific grille, black cladding, and aerodynamic alloy wheels. The SUV measures 4,285 mm in length. Its wheelbase is 2,700 mm.
Battery options mirror the e-Vitara. The 49 kWh and 61 kWh packs will be offered. The larger battery should deliver a range of around 550 kilometers.
The Return of an Icon: Renault Duster
The Renault Duster makes a big comeback on January 26, 2026. It returns after a four-year absence. The new generation gets a design inspired by the Bigster concept.
The cabin is much more premium than before. Key features include:
- A 10.1-inch touchscreen
- 7-inch digital instrument cluster
- Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
- Wireless charging
- Automatic climate control
- Six-speaker Arkamys 3D audio system
- Ventilated front seats
Globally, the SUV offers multiple powertrains. These include a 1.2-liter turbo-petrol mild-hybrid, a 1.0-liter turbo bi-fuel engine, and a 1.6-liter strong hybrid setup. The hybrid uses two electric motors and a 1.2 kWh battery.
Nissan Tekton: A Platform Sibling
Nissan will unveil the Tekton in February 2026. It shares its platform with the new Duster. A launch is expected by mid-2026.
The design is clean and futuristic. It features an edge-to-edge grille, slim LED headlamps, and a full-width LED light strip. The rear has a connected LED setup. The Tekton nameplate appears prominently on both the tailgate and hood.
Interior details are still under wraps. However, expect a large touchscreen with wireless smartphone connectivity. A digital driver display, wireless charging, ventilated front seats, and a 360-degree camera are likely. Petrol engine options will probably include naturally aspirated and turbo units.
Facelifts Refresh Popular Models
Several existing SUVs will receive mid-cycle updates to stay competitive.
Skoda Kushaq Facelift
Skoda Auto India unveils the 2026 Kushaq facelift on January 20. This is the SUV's first major update since its 2021 launch.
Exterior changes include sharper LED lighting with new DRL signatures. The grille and bumpers are revised. New alloy wheels and fresh color options will be available. The familiar shape remains.
Inside, expect better materials and a larger touchscreen with wireless connectivity. A panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, a 360-degree camera, and Level 2 ADAS are likely additions.
Engine options should stay the same. The 1.0-liter turbo-petrol produces 115 hp and 175 Nm. The 1.5-liter turbo-petrol delivers 150 hp and 250 Nm. Minor suspension and transmission updates could be introduced.
Volkswagen Taigun Facelift
Following the Kushaq, its sibling, the Volkswagen Taigun, will also get a mid-cycle update. It should feature refreshed exterior and interior elements.
New features may include ADAS, a panoramic sunroof, and a 360-degree camera. The Taigun will likely continue with its existing 1.0-liter and 1.5-liter turbo-petrol engines.
These upcoming launches promise to make the mid-size SUV segment more competitive. Buyers will have a wider range of choices, including electric options and refreshed models. Waiting a few months could lead to a better purchase decision.
