BMW Motorrad Confirms India Launch of F 450 GS Adventure Motorcycle
BMW Motorrad has officially announced the highly anticipated India launch of its new adventure motorcycle, the F 450 GS. The model is scheduled to make its debut in the Indian market on April 23, 2026, marking a significant entry into the country's growing adventure biking segment.
Local Manufacturing and Market Positioning
While the F 450 GS was originally designed and developed in Germany, it will be manufactured locally in India at TVS Motor Company's production facility located in Hosur. This strategic move allows BMW to optimize costs and enhance availability for Indian consumers.
The new model will serve as BMW's entry-level adventure motorcycle in India, effectively replacing the current G 310 GS in the lineup. It is positioned to compete directly with established rivals such as the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 and the KTM 390 Adventure, though it is expected to command a premium price point reflecting its brand value and advanced features.
Engine Specifications and Hardware Details
Powering the BMW F 450 GS is a newly developed 420cc parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine that delivers an impressive output of approximately 48 horsepower and 43 Newton-meters of torque. This robust powerplant is mated to a smooth-shifting 6-speed gearbox, enhanced with a slipper clutch and a bi-directional quickshifter for seamless gear changes.
On the hardware front, the motorcycle is equipped with a sophisticated suspension system featuring a 43 mm USD (Upside Down) front fork and a rear monoshock, ensuring excellent handling and comfort on varied terrains. Braking performance is handled by a substantial 310 mm front disc and a 240 mm rear disc, providing reliable stopping power. The bike rides on a practical 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheel setup, wrapped in dual-purpose tyres designed for both on-road and off-road adventures.
Advanced Features and Expected Pricing
The BMW F 450 GS comes packed with a comprehensive suite of electronics and features aimed at enhancing the riding experience. Key highlights include a vibrant 6.5-inch TFT display with integrated smartphone connectivity, multiple riding modes, and advanced safety systems such as traction control, switchable dual-channel ABS, ABS Pro, Dynamic Traction Control, Engine Drag Torque Control, and Dynamic Brake Control. Additionally, the bike offers heated grips for comfort in varying weather conditions.
BMW is expected to launch the F 450 GS in four distinct variants: Basic, Exclusive, Sport, and GS Trophy, catering to different rider preferences and requirements. Globally, the motorcycle offers adjustable seat height options, with a standard height of 845 mm that can be modified to 835 mm or 860 mm based on the selected seat configuration.
While the official pricing for the Indian market has not been disclosed yet, industry insiders anticipate the motorcycle to be priced upwards of Rs 5 lakh (ex-showroom). More detailed information regarding specifications, features, and exact pricing is expected to be revealed closer to the launch date in April 2026.
