Bareilly: A 60-foot-high water tank in Sardar Nagar gram panchayat, Bareilly district, collapsed on Monday, leaving eight people injured and two cows dead. The tank, constructed nearly two years ago at a cost of Rs 3.62 crore, gave way as its pillars weakened following recent rainfall.
Incident Details
The injured individuals have been identified as Dori Lal (32), Arjun (30), Veerpal (48), Ravindra (50), and Vedpal (45). All were promptly taken to a private hospital in Bareilly city for medical treatment. Vedpal recounted that he was tying his cattle when the structure suddenly collapsed, trapping him under the debris. Two cows were also buried and killed in the rubble.
The water tank was awarded to a private construction company on December 21, 2022, and completed approximately one-and-a-half years ago. The collapse occurred within a short span of its completion, raising serious concerns about the quality of construction.
Legal Action
Superintendent of Police (South) Anshika Verma stated, “An FIR has been lodged against the construction agency, NCC Limited, under BNS sections 125 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 316 (criminal breach of trust), along with relevant sections of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act.” The FIR alleges that the collapse points to the use of substandard materials and technical negligence.
