An image of an apparently unstable part of a concrete parapet wall of the under-construction Metro 4 line at Anand Nagar, Ghodbunder highway went viral Wednesday evening, sparking concern among residents and motorists who feared a possible repeat of the LBS Marg Mulund tragedy in February.
Immediate Response by Authorities
The Thane regional disaster management cell, alerted about the viral image, promptly informed the Metro team. Officials rushed to the spot and assured that the part was already fully secured.
"The supporting stitch for parapets is already complete and are in safe condition. The mismatch or gap seen from outer side is superficial and does not affect functional performance of the parapet. The structure is entirely safe," clarified a MMRDA official.
Background and Context
The incident comes months after a similar concrete collapse on LBS Marg in Mulund in February, which had raised questions about construction safety. The Metro 4 line, connecting Wadala to Kasarvadavali, is a key infrastructure project for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
Residents in the area had expressed fears that the visible gap in the parapet could indicate structural weakness, but officials have dismissed these concerns, emphasizing that the gap is only superficial and does not compromise the integrity of the structure.
The MMRDA has assured the public that all safety protocols are being followed and that the project remains on track. Further inspections are being carried out to prevent any future incidents.
