Telangana Positions Itself as Digital Governance Pioneer Through Advanced Technologies
Hyderabad: In a bold declaration of technological ambition, Telangana has set its sights on becoming a national role model for digital governance by harnessing cutting-edge technologies including artificial intelligence (AI), quantum computing and blockchain. The state's IT and Industries Minister, D Sridhar Babu, made this announcement during his address at the India AI Impact Summit 2026 held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.
Technology as Core Transformational Tool
Speaking at a session titled 'Agents of Change: AI for Government Services and Climate Resilience,' Minister Babu emphasized that technology is being positioned as the central transformational instrument under the comprehensive Telangana Rising 2047 vision. The government is actively working to integrate advanced technological solutions with citizen services to achieve multiple objectives.
The primary goals include:
- Bridging the substantial gap between administrative systems and the general population
- Strengthening last-mile delivery mechanisms for government services
- Reducing potential misuse and improving efficiency in welfare programs
Comprehensive Digital Infrastructure Initiatives
Minister Babu highlighted several key initiatives that form the backbone of Telangana's digital governance framework. These include the development of Bharat Future City, the establishment of a dedicated AI City, the creation of an AI University, implementation of the AIKAM platform, deployment of the AI-driven Telangana Digital Exchange, and the innovative Bhu Bharati project.
"These initiatives will collectively reinforce our state's digital governance framework and create a robust ecosystem for technological innovation," the minister stated during his presentation.
Inclusive Innovation and Broad Technology Adoption
Emphasizing the importance of inclusive innovation, Minister Babu revealed that Telangana is actively exploring the implementation of Agentic AI systems. This approach aims to ensure that emerging technologies benefit all sections of society, particularly marginalized communities that might otherwise be left behind in the digital revolution.
The state government is expanding technology adoption across multiple critical sectors including:
- Agricultural modernization and precision farming
- Climate resilience and environmental monitoring
- Healthcare delivery and telemedicine services
- Sustainable urban development and smart city initiatives
- Clean energy generation and distribution
- Disaster management and early warning systems
Investment Opportunities and Talent Development
In a separate session with Swedish trade representatives and global technology stakeholders, Minister Babu pitched Telangana as what he described as a "treasure trove of opportunities" for international investors. He highlighted the state's vast talent pool as its greatest competitive advantage, noting that Telangana possesses a strong and dynamic workforce capable of driving impactful research and innovation in artificial intelligence and related fields.
The minister informed the gathering that the Telangana government, under the leadership of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, is proactively preparing for rapid AI-driven changes in job roles through comprehensive skilling and reskilling initiatives. He projected that AI research centers, applications development, and service ecosystems would create substantial new employment opportunities and urged the youth to actively prepare themselves to seize these emerging prospects.
Infrastructure Development and Policy Framework
Minister Babu also pointed to the state's large-scale push to provide universal internet connectivity, with the T-Fibre initiative working diligently over the past two years to connect even the most remote rural areas. This infrastructure development complements what the minister described as Telangana's status as a "haven for investment," citing several key advantages including a pro-innovation ecosystem, uninterrupted power supply across the state, and a stable, predictable policy framework that provides confidence to both domestic and international investors.
The comprehensive approach outlined by Minister Babu positions Telangana at the forefront of India's digital transformation journey, with the state aiming to demonstrate how technology can fundamentally reshape governance and public service delivery while creating economic opportunities for its citizens.
