Water supply across Pimpri Chinchwad will be suspended on Tuesday evening to facilitate essential civil and electrical maintenance at the Nigdi water purification centre.
Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) officials said supply on Wednesday morning is likely to remain irregular and at low pressure. Residents have been urged to store sufficient water in advance and use it sparingly during the disruption.
According to officials from the water supply department, routine repairs at the Sector 23 facility and other zonal installations are necessary to prevent major breakdowns in the city's distribution network. Since the civic body already follows an alternate-day water schedule, this shutdown is expected to widen the gap in supply for several localities, potentially leaving some areas without water for an extra day.
Pramod Ombase, chief engineer and head of the PCMC's water supply department, appealed to citizens to plan their usage accordingly. "The civic administration will aim to complete the works within the scheduled time and restore normal supply at the earliest," he said.
Background and Impact
The Nigdi water purification centre is a critical facility that treats and distributes water to numerous residential and commercial areas in Pimpri Chinchwad. The scheduled maintenance includes civil repairs and electrical upgrades aimed at enhancing the efficiency and reliability of the system.
Residents in affected zones are advised to store water in advance. The PCMC has requested cooperation and patience from citizens as the work is carried out. Officials anticipate that normal supply will resume by Wednesday evening, though some areas may experience delays.
