Maradu Municipality Unveils Waste-to-Art Installation

In a creative move under the Swachh Survekshan campaign, the Maradu municipality has unveiled a unique 'waste to art' installation beneath the flyover at Kundannur Junction. The initiative aims to promote cleanliness, environmental protection, and recycling.

Art from Discarded Cables

The installation was created using discarded cables and other waste materials collected from various parts of the municipality. It portrays a sanitation worker sweeping the streets, crafted entirely from multicoloured cables. Through this artwork, the municipality seeks to spread awareness about proper waste management, sustainable practices, and the importance of keeping public spaces clean.

Initiative by Local Councillor

The project was headed by Shibu P P, councillor of the 22nd division. According to him, the idea emerged after he noticed many unused cables piled up at a collection point. He then coordinated with the municipality's health wing and sanitation workers to transform the waste into an artwork. Shibu noted that despite repeated warnings from the municipality, service providers continue to leave cables discarded along roadsides and public spaces.
