Kolkata's North-South Metro (Blue Line) services experienced a 20-minute disruption on Friday due to a technical issue in the signaling system at Shahid Khudiram station. Officials attributed the snag to the heavy rainfall that lashed the city in the morning, which may have affected the equipment at the elevated station.
Background of Shahid Khudiram Station
Shahid Khudiram station, also known as Briji or Garia Bazar, has been serving as the southern terminal of the Blue Line since July 22 of the previous year. This change was implemented after the original southern terminal, Kavi Subhash at New Garia, was shut down due to cracks developing in one of its platforms.
Recent Infrastructure Developments
To facilitate train operations, a crossover was installed at Shahid Khudiram station approximately two weeks ago. This infrastructure allows trains to switch tracks and is crucial for efficient service management at the terminal.
The disruption on Friday caused inconvenience to commuters, but services were restored after the technical team resolved the signal issue. Authorities are investigating the exact cause and are taking measures to prevent such incidents in the future, especially during adverse weather conditions.
