In response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appeal to conserve fuel and promote public transport, Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University (CSJM University) and several corporators of the Kanpur Municipal Corporation launched initiatives on Monday to encourage fuel conservation and environmental protection.
University Directives for Fuel Conservation
Vice-Chancellor Prof Vinay Kumar Pathak issued an office memorandum urging all teachers, officers, and employees to maximize fuel conservation and promote the use of public transport. The university administration also released guidelines to promote energy conservation and responsible transportation systems on campus.
According to the order, the Registrar, Finance Officer, Controller of Examinations, and other officials will now use e-cars or electric vehicles for official work within the campus. Emphasis has also been placed on using public transport and Metro services for attending meetings and programs within Kanpur city.
Online Meetings and Vehicle Usage
The university administration further directed that, as far as possible, meetings should be conducted online to minimize unnecessary fuel consumption. Fuel-operated university vehicles will only be used for official duties outside the city and for essential work.
The administration expressed hope that the initiative will not only save fuel but also contribute to environmental conservation and reduction in carbon emissions. The Vice-Chancellor appealed to all teachers, officers, and employees to ensure immediate compliance with the directives.
Corporators Promote Cycling
Meanwhile, some corporators, including BJP group leader in the House Naveen Pandit, used bicycles to move around their wards. This helped them identify civic problems while spreading awareness about fuel conservation and eco-friendly transport.
