Jaguar Land Rover is recalling 170,169 vehicles in the United States due to a defect that could result in a loss of drive power, the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced on Thursday.
Affected Models and Cause
The recall impacts several models, including the Range Rover, Discovery, Range Rover Sport, Defender, and others, according to the NHTSA. The issue stems from a failure of the DC-DC converter, which prevents the vehicle's 12-volt system from charging properly. This can lead to a sudden loss of propulsion, increasing the risk of a crash.
Safety Risk and Remedy
When the DC-DC converter fails, the battery may not receive sufficient charge, causing the vehicle to lose power unexpectedly. Owners will be notified by Jaguar Land Rover, and authorized dealers will inspect and replace the faulty converter free of charge. The recall is expected to begin soon, and affected customers are advised to contact their local dealer for more information.
This recall underscores the importance of addressing electrical system issues promptly to ensure vehicle safety. Jaguar Land Rover has not reported any accidents or injuries related to this defect, but the action is being taken as a precautionary measure to protect drivers and passengers.
