Panaji: The first phase of Census 2027, known as House Listing Operations (HLO), was successfully completed in Goa from April 16 to May 15. This marked the first time the census was conducted across the state using a dedicated mobile application, officials announced.
Digital Transformation of Census
For the first time in Goa's history, the census enumeration was carried out digitally through a specially developed mobile app. Extensive training programs were organized prior to the commencement of the first phase to familiarize field staff with the digital application. The training ensured that enumerators could efficiently use the app to collect and upload data in real time.
Data Collected During First Phase
During this initial phase, enumerators gathered comprehensive data on housing conditions, household amenities, and assets possessed by households. The information collected includes details about the type of house, access to basic amenities such as electricity, water, and sanitation, as well as ownership of assets like vehicles, computers, and other durable goods.
Importance of the Census Data
“The information collected will provide an important statistical foundation for planning, governance, infrastructure development, and implementation of welfare programmes,” the directorate stated. The data will assist policymakers in making informed decisions regarding resource allocation, urban planning, and social welfare initiatives.
Preparations for Next Phase
Preparations for the next phase of Census 2027 are already in progress. Officials have indicated that further details regarding the second phase will be announced separately. The second phase will focus on population enumeration, where details about each individual will be recorded.
Additional Information
Residents can also check related information such as gold rates, silver rates, bank holidays, public holidays, and petrol prices in Goa through official sources. The successful completion of the first phase marks a significant milestone in the adoption of digital technology for government data collection processes.
