The Delhi government has issued an advisory urging private sector offices to implement a two-day work-from-home policy, adopt staggered office hours, and encourage carpooling among employees to conserve fuel. This initiative is part of the 90-day 'Mera Bharat, Mera Yogdan' fuel-saving campaign launched earlier this week by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
Fuel Conservation Campaign
The campaign aims to reduce fuel consumption in the national capital through voluntary measures. The advisory, released on May 17, 2026, calls on private companies to allow employees to work from home for at least two days a week. It also recommends staggering office timings to ease traffic congestion and promote carpooling to cut down on individual vehicle usage.
Government's Appeal
CM Rekha Gupta emphasized the collective responsibility of citizens and businesses in conserving resources. She stated that small changes in daily routines can lead to significant fuel savings and a cleaner environment. The government has also announced plans to monitor the campaign's impact and may consider further measures based on public participation.
Private sector associations have welcomed the advisory, with many companies expressing readiness to implement flexible work arrangements. However, some have raised concerns about operational challenges, particularly for roles that require physical presence. The government has assured support and guidance to facilitate a smooth transition.
The advisory is non-binding, but the government hopes that voluntary compliance will set a precedent for sustainable practices. Citizens are also encouraged to use public transport and adopt fuel-efficient driving habits.
