Several low-lying areas, including parts of the Central Business District and major arterial roads, experienced severe waterlogging. Commuters faced long delays as vehicles crawled through flooded streets. The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and other civic bodies received numerous complaints about blocked drains and overflowing stormwater drains.
Drainage System Overwhelmed
The sudden heavy rainfall overwhelmed the city's drainage system, which is already under strain due to rapid urbanization and encroachments. Many drains were clogged with debris and silt, exacerbating the flooding. Residents in affected areas reported water entering their homes and shops, causing damage to property.
Urgent Measures Initiated
In response, the BBMP has deployed teams to clear blocked drains and desilt stormwater channels. The agency has also set up control rooms to monitor the situation and coordinate relief efforts. Officials stated that they are working on a war footing to prevent further disruptions as the monsoon season approaches.

Experts emphasize that temporary fixes are not enough and call for long-term solutions, including comprehensive drainage upgrades, stricter enforcement against encroachments, and better urban planning. The city's rapid growth has put immense pressure on its infrastructure, and climate change is likely to bring more intense rainfall events in the future.
Citizens have also been urged to cooperate by not dumping waste into drains and to report any blockages promptly. The BBMP has promised to address the issues on a priority basis and ensure that the city is better prepared for the upcoming monsoon.
