The Belagavi City Corporation (BCC) has officially launched the Swachh Survekshan campaign, an initiative under the Government of India’s Swachh Bharat Mission, to gather public feedback on sanitation and civic services across the city. This campaign seeks to involve citizens directly in assessing and improving urban cleanliness.
Campaign Objectives and Background
Executive Engineer (Environmental Division) Hanumant Kaladagi addressed reporters at the corporation office on Wednesday, highlighting that the Swachh Bharat Mission, introduced in 2016, aims to create a cleaner urban environment by incorporating citizens’ feedback. He noted that the central government incentivizes urban local bodies with awards and star rankings to encourage improved sanitation standards.
Participation and Targets
Kaladagi stated that the BCC has undertaken the campaign under the direction of Commissioner Kartik M and has already received responses from approximately 16,000 residents. The civic body aims to collect feedback from at least five percent of the total population to meet the prescribed target under the survey. This ambitious goal requires widespread community involvement.
Survey Details
The survey comprises five questions covering key aspects such as waste management and maintenance of public toilets. Citizens can participate by scanning a QR code linked to the campaign application and submitting their responses online. This digital approach simplifies the process and encourages broader participation.
Outreach Efforts
To boost participation, teams are visiting institutions and public places across the city to assist residents and encourage them to share their feedback. These field teams are instrumental in reaching citizens who may not have easy access to the online platform.
Appeal for Cooperation
Kaladagi appealed for public cooperation, urging citizens to actively participate by engaging with field teams or using the mobile app. He stressed that wider participation is key to improving civic services and securing a better ranking for the city. The success of the Swachh Survekshan campaign hinges on collective action from all residents of Belagavi.
