Two men lose Rs 53 lakh in online share trading frauds

Pune: Two men collectively lost Rs 53 lakh in separate online share trading frauds between June last year and May this year. Separate complaints have been registered with the Kondhwa and Kalewadi police on Thursday.

Fraud in Rahatani

A 58-year-old resident of Rahatani, who lodged a complaint with the Kalewadi police, stated that in November last year, the fraudsters contacted him and posed as employees of a share broking firm. They assured him of good profits on his investments through their firm. An officer from the Kalewadi police said, "The crooks lured the victim to transfer Rs 26.39 lakh between November last year and May 5 to different bank accounts."

Fraud in Kondhwa

Similarly, a 26-year-old private company employee from Kondhwa lost Rs 26.72 lakh to cybercriminals in an online share trading fraud between June last year and April. The fraudsters promised him good returns on his investments and persuaded him to transfer money to several bank accounts. The man lodged a complaint with the Kondhwa police on Thursday.

These incidents highlight the growing threat of online investment scams. Authorities urge the public to verify the credentials of any investment platform and avoid transferring money to unknown accounts. Victims should report such frauds immediately to the cybercrime helpline or local police.
