In a critical development ahead of the launch of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) programme for electoral rolls in Odisha, the government has identified and flagged a fraudulent website that is impersonating the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO). This discovery was made on Tuesday, prompting an urgent public safety warning from authorities.

Alarmingly, the fraudulent platform has been found to solicit one-time passwords (OTPs) from visitors in order to grant access to voter lists, raising strong suspicions of a cyber scam aimed at harvesting sensitive personal data.

A spokesperson from the CEO's office emphasized the severity of the situation, stating, "In view of the forthcoming SIR 2026, any misinformation during this period could create confusion among electors and adversely affect the revision process." The spokesperson further clarified, "The fake website is attempting to replicate the official platform and is disseminating misleading and incorrect information to the public. The only official website of the office of the CEO, Odisha is ceoodisha.nic.in. We urge everyone not to rely upon or interact with any other website claiming to represent the CEO office. Any instance of suspicious or misleading content may be brought to the notice of the office of the CEO."
In response to this threat, police have launched a comprehensive investigation into the matter. A senior police officer provided insights from preliminary findings, noting, "Preliminary findings suggest this could be the handiwork of cyber fraudsters. Asking for OTPs is a clear red flag, and we urge citizens not to share sensitive information on any site other than the official portal."
