Thiruvananthapuram: Students across all schools in Kerala will take a cybersafety pledge on Monday, the opening day of the new academic year, as part of a statewide initiative to raise awareness about the dangers and challenges of the digital world.
Kid Glove Project: Ensuring Children's Safety in Cyberspace
The programme is being implemented under the Kerala police cyber division’s Kid Glove project, an initiative aimed at ensuring the safety of children in cyberspace. The project focuses on promoting safe and responsible use of digital platforms while educating students about cyberthreats, online gaming risks, fake news, privacy protection, digital addiction, cyber hygiene, social media safety, and responsible digital behaviour.
Training for Teachers and Parents
As part of the initiative, the state police, in collaboration with the education department, will provide basic cybersecurity training to teachers and parents. Awareness activities, including quizzes and other interactive programmes, will also be organized to enhance cyber literacy among students and the wider school community.
Government Directives for Implementation
The government has issued directives to all educational officers to ensure effective implementation and continued monitoring of the project across the state. Officials stated that the initiative is intended to equip students with the knowledge and skills required to navigate the digital world safely and responsibly, especially at a time when online engagement among children is increasing rapidly.
