Indian Railways has issued an urgent appeal to passengers to remain vigilant while traveling, citing a rise in 'anti-social incidents' across the network. The directive comes after a high-level review meeting chaired by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, where officials stressed the need for enhanced security measures.
Enhanced Surveillance and Technology
The meeting emphasized the intensified use of modern technology to combat security threats. Key measures include:
- AI-based surveillance systems to detect suspicious behavior in real time.
- Deployment of drones for aerial monitoring of railway stations and tracks.
- Expanded CCTV coverage at vulnerable locations, including platforms, parking lots, and entry points.

Passenger Cooperation Sought
Railway authorities have urged passengers to report any suspicious activity immediately to security personnel or through the Railway helpline number 139. The advisory follows a spate of reported incidents, including thefts, harassment, and vandalism on trains and at stations. Indian Railways has also increased the frequency of random checks and patrols by the Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Railway Protection Force (RPF).
