Modus Operandi

The gang targeted victims in Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Odisha, Haryana, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, and Himachal Pradesh. They lured individuals from rural and economically weaker backgrounds by promising benefits under government welfare schemes. After convincing them to open bank accounts, the accused collected their passbooks, ATM cards, and cheque books. These accounts were then used to receive money from cyber fraud and online scams, which was subsequently divided among the gang members.

Investigation Details

The probe revealed that police identified 46 bank accounts linked to the accused. Among these, 17 accounts registered with various banks had a total of 212 complaints lodged against them on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP). In recognition of the successful operation, the Gonda police announced a cash reward of Rs 25,000 for the cyber cell team that cracked the case.
