Four Bihar cyber fraudsters arrested in Jharkhand Deoghar

Four alleged cyber fraudsters from Bihar were arrested in Deoghar town following a search at a hotel on Sunday, police said.

Identification and Background of the Accused

The accused were identified as Dharamraj Kumar Singh of Udanpur village, Satyam Kumar Singh of Sangma village, Gautam Kumar Singh and Rajaram Kumar Singh, both from Azampur village, all in Bihar’s Nawada district. Police said the accused, all in their early 20s, are friends and had been jointly operating an illegal cyber fraud network.

Modus Operandi: Impersonating Courier Officials

During investigation, police found that the accused used to impersonate officials of courier companies to contact people on the pretext of parcel or courier delivery and cheat them through various fraudulent means. Investigators also found their involvement in several cyber fraud cases reported in Deoghar.

Seized Items and Evidence

Police recovered five mobile phones and seven SIM cards from their possession. One of the seized SIM cards was linked to a cyber fraud complaint registered on the Pratibimb portal.

Arrest and Legal Proceedings

“The accused were under our radar for a long time. A tip-off suggested that the accused had come to Deoghar to offer prayers at the Baba Baidyanath Dham and were staying at a hotel,” said Rakesh Kumar Ravi, inspector of cyber crime police station. After examining the seized phones and SIM cards and questioning the suspects, they were sent to judicial custody. “The accused were committing cybercrimes for a considerable period,” Ravi said.
