DGCA Bans Unauthorised Photography at Airports, Offenders Face No-Fly List
DGCA Bans Unauthorised Airport Photography, No-Fly Risk

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued stringent guidelines prohibiting unauthorised photography and videography in sensitive areas of airports across India, including Nagpur. Passengers and visitors are now barred from filming or photographing security checkpoints, boarding gates, runway buses, aprons, aircraft handling zones, and other restricted operational areas without prior authorisation. The move aims to prevent accidental recording and circulation of sensitive operational information that could compromise airport security.

Strict Penalties for Violators

Offenders may face financial penalties and, in serious cases, have their names recommended for inclusion in the DGCA's No-Fly List, resulting in a temporary or permanent ban on air travel. Authorities may also confiscate mobile phones, cameras, or other recording devices for investigation. Security personnel have been empowered to act immediately against violators. In minor cases, passengers may be directed to delete the material on the spot; repeated violations or incidents involving sensitive security content will attract stricter action.

Rise in Social Media Content Creation

Airport officials say the guidelines come in response to a rise in passengers creating social media content while travelling. In several instances, videos uploaded online have inadvertently captured security arrangements, surveillance systems, and staff operations, which could compromise airport security even when the content appears innocuous.

Prior Permission Required for Commercial Filming

Individuals or organisations wishing to film within airport premises for advertisements, feature films, documentaries, or commercial social media content must obtain formal prior permission from airport management and the relevant security agencies before any filming begins. No exemption will apply without all requisite approvals in place.

Passengers Advised to Remain Vigilant

Passengers are advised to remain mindful of the regulations at all times. Photography may still be permitted in designated public areas, but travellers must follow all instructions issued by airport staff and security agencies. The DGCA urges all travellers to comply with the new rules to ensure the safety and security of airport operations.
