Hisar police have successfully busted a cyber fraud gang operating in the region, arresting five individuals. The accused are believed to have been involved in a large-scale fraud operation, with over 200 bank accounts linked to their activities. The arrests were made following a detailed investigation by the cyber crime unit.
Details of the Operation
According to police officials, the gang used sophisticated methods to dupe victims across India. They would create fake profiles and use social engineering tactics to gain the trust of their targets. Once trust was established, they would convince victims to transfer money to various bank accounts controlled by the gang.
Recovery of Evidence
During the raids, police recovered several mobile phones, SIM cards, and documents related to the bank accounts. The investigation has revealed that the gang had opened accounts using forged documents and stolen identities. The total amount defrauded is yet to be ascertained, but preliminary estimates suggest it runs into several lakhs of rupees.
Modus Operandi
The gang primarily targeted elderly individuals and those unfamiliar with digital banking. They would pose as bank officials, tax authorities, or even family members in distress. The money was then quickly transferred to multiple accounts to avoid detection.
Police Advisory
Police have urged citizens to be cautious when receiving unsolicited calls or messages. They advise never to share personal banking details or OTPs with anyone. If you suspect a fraud, report it immediately to the cyber crime helpline.
Ongoing Investigation
The investigation is ongoing, and police are looking for more suspects who may be part of the network. They are also working with banks to freeze the remaining accounts and trace the flow of money. The arrested individuals have been remanded to police custody for further questioning.
This bust is a significant step in curbing cyber fraud in the region. Police have assured that they will continue to crack down on such gangs to protect the public from financial crimes.
