The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has significantly bolstered airport security measures by partnering with the Indian Army to counter the rising threat of drones, particularly in sensitive regions such as Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab. A total of 659 CISF personnel have successfully completed military-grade training in anti-drone operations. These trained personnel will be deployed to form Quick Response Teams (QRTs) at various airports across the country by the end of the year.
Enhanced Training and Technological Upgrades
The specialized training program was conducted in collaboration with the Indian Army, leveraging their expertise in countering unmanned aerial vehicles. The curriculum included advanced techniques for detecting, tracking, and neutralizing hostile drones. The CISF is also testing full-body scanners at airports to improve passenger screening and introducing a barcode-based staff tracking system to enhance internal security protocols.
High-Level Review Meeting
During a high-level operational meeting chaired by CISF Director General Praveer Ranjan, officials reviewed the current security upgrades, counter-terror preparedness, and technological enhancements. The meeting emphasized the need for continuous improvement in response mechanisms to address evolving threats. The integration of anti-drone systems is a key component of the CISF's strategy to safeguard critical aviation infrastructure.
The initiative comes amid increasing concerns over drone intrusions near airports, which pose risks to flight safety and national security. By establishing dedicated QRTs, the CISF aims to ensure rapid and effective response to any drone-related incidents. The force is also exploring additional technologies, including radio frequency jammers and drone detection radars, to further strengthen the security framework.
