The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has successfully secured the deportation of wanted fugitive and cyber crime gang kingpin Ganesh Balaso Kale from Thailand. Kale, who was the subject of an Interpol Red Notice, was brought back to India on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, following close coordination between the CBI, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), and the Embassy of India in Thailand.
Details of the Cybercrime Network
Kale was wanted for allegedly masterminding a sophisticated cybercrime fraud network that lured victims with promises of lucrative online part-time jobs. According to officials, the scam coerced victims into making monetary investments under the guise of security deposits, only to defraud them of their money. Kale allegedly ran a sprawling network of cyber financial criminals, enticing unsuspecting individuals with commissions in exchange for using their bank accounts to route illicit funds. He is also accused of instructing co-conspirators to procure fake SIM cards and burner mobile phones to facilitate the operation.
International Coordination and Arrest
The breakthrough came after the Interpol Red Corner Notice was published in May 2026. Armed with the notice, Thai authorities located and detained Kale in Bangkok on May 24, 2026. Following legal proceedings, he was deported to India, marking a remarkably short 20-day window between the issuance of the notice and his apprehension—a feat officials credit to highly effective international agency coordination. Upon his arrival in Mumbai on Thursday, June 11, 2026, Kale was immediately taken into custody by the Cyber Cell of the Maharashtra Police for further interrogation and legal processing.
Role of BHARATPOL and Success Rate
As the National Central Bureau for INTERPOL in India, the CBI coordinates with domestic law enforcement agencies through the BHARATPOL platform. Officials noted that this latest deportation contributes to a growing track record of international law enforcement success, with more than 160 wanted criminals successfully brought back to India through inter-agency cooperation in recent years.
