A 32-year-old man has been arrested in Bengaluru for allegedly blackmailing a woman with her private videos and demanding sexual favours, police said on Friday.
The accused, identified as Ravi Kumar, a resident of KR Puram, was taken into custody on Thursday after the victim filed a complaint at the Cyber Crime Police Station. According to the police, the woman had met Kumar through a social media platform a few months ago, and they had exchanged explicit videos. Kumar later threatened to make the videos public unless she complied with his demands for sexual favours.
The victim, a 28-year-old software professional, said she was subjected to harassment for over two months. Unable to bear the pressure, she approached the police. A case was registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act.
The police arrested Kumar from his residence and seized his mobile phone, which contained the videos. He has been remanded to judicial custody.
Cyber crime experts have urged people to be cautious while sharing personal content online and to report any such incidents immediately.
