UP Cabinet Approves Rs 855 Crore RMLIMS Expansion

The Uttar Pradesh cabinet on Monday approved a budget of Rs 855 crore for the construction of a 1,010-bed multispeciality emergency centre, a new Outpatient Department (OPD) block, and a teaching block at the new campus of the Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (RMLIMS) in Gomti Nagar Extension, Lucknow.

Key Features of the Expansion

Finance Minister Suresh Khanna announced that the project will significantly strengthen critical care and expand treatment capacity at one of the state capital's key tertiary healthcare institutions. Construction is expected to begin within three months and be completed in three years, according to RMLIMS officials. The basement of the seven-storey building has already been constructed.

The facility will include 200 high-dependency and intensive care beds, with seven floors dedicated to orthopaedics, neurosurgery, neurology, trauma surgery, general medicine, gastroenterology, cardiology, pulmonary medicine, and critical care. It will also feature CT scan, X-ray, ultrasound, and pathology services.

New OPD and Teaching Blocks

A new OPD block will be built to manage the growing patient load and provide more streamlined and modern outpatient services. Additionally, a 200-seat teaching block will be developed to enhance academic infrastructure for medical students. Officials stated that the facility will offer a technologically upgraded learning environment, contributing to improved medical education quality.

Eco-Friendly and Advanced Features

The project includes eco-friendly features such as solar water heating and rainwater harvesting. A skill innovation and simulation centre and a bone bank will also be established. The skill centre will provide advanced training through simulations, while the bone bank will support research and transplantation, both aimed at strengthening the institute's research and training capabilities.

At the new campus, facilities such as boys' and girls' hostels, nurses' flats, residential complexes, sports infrastructure, and a paramedical nursing college have already been developed.
