It has been a decade since Tom Holland first swung into the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Spider-Man in 'Captain America: Civil War'. Since then, he has played Peter Parker in a successful trilogy and become an integral part of the 'Avengers' franchise. With 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' approaching, the actor's latest interview has raised eyebrows as he seemingly indicated readiness to hang up his superhero suit.
Passing the Baton
After a five-year break from the iconic superhero film following the billion-dollar box office success of 'Spider-Man: No Way Home', Holland is returning with more creative control. Speaking to Empire magazine, he reflected on his hopes for the future of the Spider-Man universe beyond Peter Parker, indicating he is ready to pass the baton to the next actor.
"For whoever's next, whether that is a Miles Morales or a Spider-Gwen or a Spider-Woman or something like that, I would love to be a part of setting up the next chapter," Holland confessed. He added, "Whatever that looks like, I don't know. But if I could do what Downey (Robert Downey Jr) did for me, then I would be so content swinging off into the sunset."
Stepping Back from Acting
The actor's comments come after he previously indicated readiness to take a step back from acting after becoming a dad. They also come amid speculation that Marvel Studios may already be exploring ways to introduce alternate Spider-Men or Spider-Woman into the MCU after the end of the Multiverse Saga.
Darker Take and Creative Control
Holland's upcoming turn as the superhero has been making waves for his 'darker' take on the character. According to the actor, this could be due to his involvement in the creative development of 'Brand New Day'. Speaking to the portal, he revealed that he regularly collaborated with producers to "pitch ideas and discuss our ambitions and what we wanted to try and do."
One of Holland's biggest contributions reportedly involves a surprising evolution in Spider-Man's powers. He explained, "My pitch when I came to the table with it was called 'Spider-Puberty'. What happens if Peter Parker is losing control and things are changing?"
Man-Spider Evolution
The actor's remarks align with buzz that 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' will likely see Peter turn into 'Man-Spider' and possibly see him losing control of his evolving abilities.
'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' is slated for a July 31 release.
