Tension gripped the area in front of the head post office in Palakkad on Wednesday after a protest march organized by the Students' Federation of India (SFI) over alleged irregularities in the NEET examination turned violent. Police resorted to using water cannons to disperse the protesters after activists reportedly broke barricades and attempted to enter the post office premises.
Confrontation Lasts Nearly an Hour
The confrontation between the protesters and police continued for nearly an hour, leading to a heavy deployment of police personnel in the area. The march was inaugurated by SFI state secretariat member Vipin S Pirayiri, who delivered a speech criticizing the police. Referring to the clashes that had occurred at the CPM office in Palakkad on the day of the assembly election results, Vipin alleged that the police had acted in a biased manner.
SFI Leader's Warning
Addressing the gathering, Vipin said, "SFI has collected details of the policemen who assaulted our leaders and activists. If we start retaliating, there will be no limit to our aggression." He further warned that the organization had identified the houses of the police officers involved and claimed that SFI had never failed to respond to attacks against its workers.
The incident highlights ongoing tensions between student groups and law enforcement in the region, with the SFI vowing to continue its agitation against the alleged irregularities in the NEET examination.
