Mysuru is all set to host a two-day jackfruit festival on May 16 and 17 at Nanjaraja Bahadur Choultry on Vinoba Road. Organised by Sahaja Samrudha in association with Desi Seed Producer Company and the department of horticulture-Kisan Mall, the festival aims to promote jackfruit as a nutritious, climate-resilient and commercially valuable crop.
Diverse Jackfruit and Mango Varieties
Farmers from across Karnataka will showcase a wide range of jackfruit and mango varieties. The jackfruit varieties on display include Thubagere, Lalbagh Madhura, Rudrakshi Bakke, Nagarahole Jenu Halasu and the rare red Chandra Halasu. Organic mangoes such as Badami, Dasheri, Rasapuri, Imam Pasand and Kesar will also be available directly from growers.
Products and Attractions
More than 25 grafted jackfruit saplings, organic products, traditional seeds, handicrafts and value-added items like jackfruit chips, papad, jams and halwa will attract visitors. The festival will also feature fun events, including jackfruit-eating, lifting and drawing competitions.
The event is expected to draw farmers, horticulture enthusiasts and the general public, providing a platform to learn about the nutritional benefits and commercial potential of jackfruit. With growing interest in climate-resilient crops, the festival highlights jackfruit as a sustainable food source. Visitors can also purchase organic produce directly from farmers, supporting local agriculture.
